I visited Paris, France for 4 days in September 1998. Several photos from that visit are shown below. The photo at the left shows me on top of the Arc de Triomphe, with the Eifel Tower in the background. It is difficult to see online but the Eifel Tower had a number displayed counting down the days until the 1 Jan 2002. It stood at 469 when this photo was taken.

Mairie De Montreuil metro station. by John Hunter, Sep 1998, Paris. The metro was a great way to get around. Similar to the Tube in London with many stairs making it difficult to carry much luggage around. You have to open the doors yourself, it was not uncommon to see tourists waiting for the doors to open (as they do automatically in many subway systems). |
