Curious Cat Management Improvement Library - Dictionary

Run Chart - line chart of results over time. The data is plotted in chronological order from left to right (the y-axis measures the time). The run chart is used to visually identify unusual activity in the results.
By virtue of displaying the data chronologically any radical change in the data from one point to another can be explored by determining what changed over time. In addition, slow steady improvement or degradation will be visible and can aid in determining the cause. For example, if a part is wearing out over time and it effects the result that result may be visible in a run chart.
The run chart is the basis for the control chart, which is a run chart with control limits.
